WAAS-GPS under IFR

Users of TSO-C145/C146, WAAS GPS systems[1]:

  1. May use it as the sole source of navigation
  2. May flight plan based on LNAV or circling minima at both destination and alternate
  3. May file RNAV approaches at both destination and alternate airports

WAAS approaches are considered to be “Approaches with Vertical Guidance” (APV) and do not meet the standards of a precision approach as described by ICAO. So for the purposes of alternate planning, they are still considered non-precision approaches.
